Make a VIP area with an access code
Make your page stand out guide 7 of 7
An access code turns any page into a VIP area: a members' price list, early tickets, a press pack, the trade page. Visitors see your picture, your name and a message you write, like "The code is on your loyalty card", and a box for the code. Nothing else on the page shows until they type it. Pair it with Only people with the link and the page is kept out of every search as well.
Before you start
- Pro: access codes are a Pro feature.
- Usually a sub-page, so your main page stays open to everyone (Add sub-pages).
The steps
Open the page's Security tab
In the editor of the page you want to lock, open the Security tab.
Keep it out of searches
Under Who can find this page?, choose Only people with the link: it isn't listed anywhere, but it still works for anyone you give the address or QR code to. (Connections only lets your connections find and link to it instead.)
Set the code and the message
Type an Access code of four characters or more. Under What the prompt says, tell people how to get it: "Text me for the code", "It's on your ticket". Everyone sees this message before they type anything, so never put the code itself in it.
Choose how long it stays unlocked
Stay unlocked for is the number of days someone who typed the code isn't asked again, on that device. 0 means until they close their browser. Press Save changes.
The Security tab on Pro: who can find the page, the access code, the prompt and how long it stays unlocked. See what your VIPs see
Open the page in a private window. You see the gate: your picture, the page's name, your message and the code box. Type the code and press View page.
What visitors see before the code: the picture, the name, your message and the code box, and nothing else.
Check it worked
The page asks for the code in a private window, and opens once you type it. The editor's Security tab says This page is asking for a code right now, with a link to see it.
If something's different
I want to stop using the code
Clear the code on the Security tab and save; the page opens to everyone. If you move back to Free, a page with a code goes dark rather than becoming public, until you upgrade again or remove the code.
Will the code show in search results or link previews?
No. A coded page asks search engines not to list it, and its link preview hides the welcome message and links, so nothing leaks before the code.
Can I change the code?
Yes, any time. Everyone who unlocked it with the old code is asked for the new one the next time they open the page, so changing it is the way to shut out a code that got passed around.
Do it with your AI
Ask your AI "Lock my Cake Club page with the code CAKECLUB and tell people it's on their loyalty card". It proposes the code and the message, and you approve.
Why it's worth it
Exclusive feels valuable. A members' page gives regulars, sponsors or season-ticket holders a reason to stay close, and you control who's in with one code you can change whenever you like.
Connect your AI and approve its changes
